The Association of the Defence Industry of the Slovak Republic is an association uniting legal entrepreneuring entities operating in the field of defence industry. The Association was established by forty founding members during the Establishing Meeting. The members of the Association are development, manufacturing and trading industrial companies, military technical and testing institutes, military repair plants and universities.

The mission of the Association is to assist in creating optimum conditions for its members during research, development, production, testing, repairs, upgrades and trade with the defence industry, armament and materiel. Furthermore, the Association defends mutual interests of its members as well as their individual interests as far as they are not in contradiction to the mutual interests. These activities are ensured in compliance with legal regulations of the Slovak Republic and in line with security and defence policy of the Slovak Republic.

Since the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic, the Slovak defence industry , once in the past an integral part of the Czechoslovak defence industry, has come through a complicated restructuring process. The research and development capacities that had been built to meet not only the needs of the former Czechoslovak army have been significantly reduced. Despite the complicacy of the previous development, the present professional human and technical potential of the Slovak defence industry is capable of ensuring research, production, repair and modernisation of sophisticated weapon systems, equipment and materiel. However, the objective of the defence industry is not the autonomous operation, but the mutually profitable sharing of work, co-operation and collaboration with every potential partner. Beside the other objectives, the management of the Association of the Defence Industry of the Slovak Republic also strives to assist the creation of favourable entrepreneuring environment for its members and thus to contribute to integration of the Slovak defence industry into the respective industrial structures of NATO and EU.
